DESIGN STATEMENT
To design a distictive yet asthetic multifunctional shelf which are able to split into a shelf and stool independently. Dynamic shelf are meant for people who prefer furniture which could be customize according to the needs. The material chosen for this furniture is pine wood, this provides the furniture a clean and elegant texture.
DESIGN CONCEPT
The design of Pua Kumbu shelf are inspired by the Pua Kumbu pattern of Iban Tribes of Sarawak. The hexagonal pattern are picked as the main design of the shelf.
Meanwhile the idea of multiple legs on the shelf are also based on the multiple extension from the Pua Kumbu pattern.
ERGONOMICS
Pua Kumbu shelf is a shelf which are able to disassemble and transform into individual shelf and stool. The total height of the shelf is 85cm when assembled, around half the height of an adult, and yet within the reach of children, making the shelf a perfect shelf for household especially for kid’s storage. In terms of safety, the shelf are connected with metal peg, supplying sufficient force to hold the furniture together.
When fully disassembled, the container could be place wherever it needs to be, and the stool are separated into 2 different height. Both are perfect for adults and children. In terms of stability, the shelf are supported by 8 legs, thus every load applied on the shelf will be divided by 8, which means every leg receive less load and are more stable. every shelf are expected to be able to support more than 100KG of load.
